Meet Ledger….this handsome, 10 day old newborn baby boy. I instantly fell in love with his gorgeous mother who is so sweet and excited for her first baby. I remember being in her shoes and switching from excitement to worry to planning out his whole life before we even met. I always wanted a big brother and was so thrilled to be having a boy first to give any future children a protector.  You may recognize her from Survivor Castaway Season 25, Miss Utah Teen USA 2010 or Miss Utah USA 2014. She is a model for Modern Vintage Boutique and just as gorgeous inside as she is out.

This handsome little guys dad is also thrilled with his arrival. There’s sure to be some football, camping and guy time in his future. We went with a simple, timeless color scheme for this shoot and lots of white and gray. His room is safari themed so we snuck in Mr Elephant lovie to a picture too.

It’s best to book your newborn baby boy or girl session in your second trimester. I pencil you in for your due date week. Then when you are 36 weeks, I have you keep me posted on your progress and we adjust when baby comes. Many of my moms also do my Baby Steps plan that gives them newborn, 6 month mini and 1 year cake smash sessions! It’s the perfect way to document baby’s first year!

I’m so excited to announce that I now have a Newborn Registry option available for my upcoming moms!!

registry

It’s easy to create a registry:
  1. Email hello@alishashaw.com and let me know you’d like a registry setup.
  2. I’ll email you once it’s ready and you can direct your friend and family to my registry page.
  3. They can donate any amount they wish and even remain anonymous.
  4. You receive a gift box and card with the gifting parties names on it along with the amount you have available to put toward your newborn session.
  5. If you did not receive enough to cover the full session, you can pay the difference or put it toward another session to be used within 12 months.
  6. If you receive more than enough, you will be given the difference in a print & product credit.

Super easy and fun! What better gift than to have priceless photos of you new baby! You can create a registry as early as 6 months into your pregnancy. Friends and family can create one for you too as a surprise. Imagine the excitement of an upcoming mom when she receives a box with her newborn session gifted to her!

Dads, this would be a great gift to give your wife and family also! Thoughtful, darling and meaningful!

I love when clients vacation in St George and want pictures with the classic St George red rocks. This darling family with all boys was so fun and full of energy. We were watching an approaching storm and were able to get what we wanted just in time. When shooting red rock pictures, outfit choices can make or break the images. I tell clients to avoid red, orange and coral as they act like camouflage against the red hills. The combination of blues, grays and navy are a wonderful compliment to the background.  I can tell this momma’s heart is so full of love for her handsome guys!

Another wonderful extended family spending time together for the holidays. I’m always so jealous of these large families who come together to play and enjoy each other! We have the benefit of most of our family living close, but that also means that we work, live and breathe other things and are often distracted. I love the idea of being together AWAY and just focusing on the people that mean so much to us. I love hearing stories about growing up, silly moments and how they all relate to each other.

So cheers to all of you who plan reunions and get together’s that allow you to embrace your families! If you have been considering it and have yet to make it happen, DO IT! It’s a lot of work, but so worth it! We never know what tomorrow brings and even if you can get 80% of them there, it’s time well spent. If you need help with local lodging, activities, restaurants or anything else, just holler!! I’d love to point you to the best options in Southern Utah.

  1. Choose a date that works for MOST of your family-consider school holidays, work schedules and cost
  2. Book a place to stay. Southern Utah is a hub for weekend traffic with tournaments, conventions and shows of all kinds. So book at least 3-6 months in advance to house everyone together. Here’s a link to our local VRBO listings if you’d rather rent a home for your stay.
  3. Plan adventures and activities. Are you planning to hike Zion? Will you be swimming at the Washington Community Center? Looking to go to a show at Tuacahn or Brighams Playhouse? There are fun things to do for all ages so plan ahead.
  4. Book your family photos. Now that you have your calendar of events, make sure to book your photos to fit that date. 3-6 months in advance is about the right time to ensure you can get the date you want.

Then enjoy your wonderful extended family!! I hope to see you when you are here!

Day 2 of Fall Mini Sessions has been a favorite of mine! I choose a new location in the Southern Utah desert and LOVE how the light turned out. Of course the families were perfect!! This gorgeous backlit has to be shot at the right time to give the effect I was looking for. I find that earlier light blinds your subjects. Later light and it hides behind the hills. If you want to get in on my mini sessions, be sure to get my newsletter and follow me on Instagram for announcements.
